Following the success of The Space, we’ve acted on feedback from local residents who told us that they miss having access to a voluntary transport scheme for help to attend hospital appointments; the previous scheme having closed during the pandemic. We successfully applied for a government grant to set up a new Community Car scheme. This is achieved with the help of local voluntary drivers who generously use their own cars to transport those who would otherwise struggle to attend their appointments. The grant also enabled us to purchase an adapted vehicle for those that need wheelchair transport and this is kindly being sponsored by BS Motors at White Post Garage in Farningham.
The scheme started taking passengers on 1st September 2024 with priority given to those who live in Eynsford, Farningham and Lullingstone who need help with transport to health-related appointments. In time we hope to recruit volunteers from neighbouring villages which will enable us to extend the scheme to a wider area. A formal launch event was held at The Space on 16th October to coincide with the national Community Transport Week (#CTWeek24)
Please call us on 07405 710197 for information on how to join and make use of the scheme.
We are looking for volunteers who would be able to help with:
- driving people using your own vehicle
- driving the ‘Space Wagon’ (our Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle)
- escorting those who need additional assistance
- co-ordinating transport requests
